Fellow, Resident, and Medical Student Component

Ask an Anesthesiologist

MSA is dedicated to supporting medical students as they navigate their training and career paths. We invite you to submit your questions about residency, career development, advocacy, or the future of anesthesiology.

What is the best way to get involved with MSA as a medical student, and are there local opportunities for advocacy?

Medical students are encouraged to get involved early to build leadership experience, develop advocacy skills, and connect with anesthesiology professionals across the state. There are several ways to participate:

  • Join the MSA Fellow, Resident, and Medical Student Component
All medical students are welcome to participate in our committee meetings, learn about current initiatives, and engage with residents and faculty across Missouri.

  • Attend MSA Advocacy Day at the Missouri Capitol
Each year, MSA members gather in Jefferson City to meet with legislators and advocate for the future of anesthesia and patient care. This is an excellent hands-on opportunity to learn how policy impacts medicine and to speak directly with lawmakers.

  • Participate in MSA’s Annual Meeting
Medical students are invited to attend education sessions, network with anesthesiologists statewide, and present research through our student poster and oral presentation offerings.

  • Engage in Local Advocacy and Outreach
Students can work alongside MSA leaders to support grassroots outreach, organize campus engagement opportunities, and collaborate with state and national anesthesiology organizations through ASA's medical student network.

Getting involved with MSA as a student provides early exposure to advocacy, mentorship, and the professional community you will join as a physician-anesthesiologist. Whether in the Capitol or the classroom, there are numerous opportunities to learn, contribute, and lead.
